Summary

This activity is designed to improve sentence accuracy and complexity. Most students can produce the key content words in a sentence. However, they have difficulty with accuracy because the functional words are difficult or can seem unimportant. This activity will help learners eliminate problems with these functional words by giving them immediate feedback on the mistakes they are making. It will also help students develop their use of more natural, varied and complex sentence structures.

TIP: Say the sentence out loud. Notice the types of mistake you make often. Focus on those types of errors. (singular/plural, subject-verb agreement, article use, prepositions, gerunds and infinitives, noun clauses, adjective clauses, word order, and word forms.)

We see many different animals at the Peace Rock: wolves, water buffalo, springboks(?), birds, crocodiles, jerboas, a panther, a tiger, a snake, a man-cub. How does each one act in this unusual situation? In what way?
(i.e. The wolves seem relaxed and playful.)
Which animal are you most similar to when you are in a new and uncomfortable group situation?
Despite being different from the wolves, Mowgli wants to be part of the pack. Have you ever wanted to fit in with a group that was different from you? If so, tell the story.

Bagheera: Hunting at the riverbank was now forbidden because, by law of the jungle, drinking comes before eating, so you could come to the Peace Rock on a day like this and find all people side by side.

Raksha: Don't forget.

Mowgli: No hunting.

Raksha: Playing only.

Mowgli: Playing only! I got it.

Raksha: And remember, not everyone here has seen a man-cub in the jungle before, so behave yourself.

Mowgli: Okay! Okay! Can I go now?

Raksha: Take the pups with you.

Gray: Wait for me!

Mowgli: Come on, Gray!

Buck: Oh, don’t forget the truce.
