This activity will help learners eliminate problems with these functional words by giving them immediate feedback on the mistakes they are making. It will also help students develop their use of more natural, varied and complex sentence structures.
TIP: Say the sentence out loud. Notice the types of mistake you make often. Focus on those types of errors. (singular/plural, subject-verb agreement, article use, prepositions, gerunds and infinitives, noun clauses, adjective clauses, word order, and word forms.)

Mia: "I Ran".
Singer: "I Ran". A fantastic suggestion! All right, piano man, tickle those ivories. Let's hit it. One, two, three, four!
Seb: All right. I remember you. And I'll admit I was a little curt that night.
Mia: "Curt"?
Seb: Okay, I was an asshole. I can admit that.
Mia: Okay.
Seb: But requesting "I Ran" from a serious musician is just... it's too far.
Mia: My Lord! Did you just say "a serious musician"?
Seb: I don't think so.
Mia: Can I borrow what you're wearing?
Seb: Why?
Mia: 'Cause I have an audition next week. I'm playing a serious firefighter.
Seb: So you're an actress. I thought you looked familiar. Have I seen you in anything?
Mia: Uh... A coffee shop? On the Warner Bros. lot? That's classic.
Seb: Oh, I see.
Mia: Yeah.
Seb: You're a barista. And I can see how you could then look down on me from all the way up there.
Singer: Time to do the next set.
Seb: He doesn't... I don't... He doesn't tell me what to do.
Mia: He just... told you what to do...
Seb: I know, he... I let him. What's your name?
Mia: Mia.
Seb: Mia. Guess I'll see you in the movies.
Man: Heard of Joseph Campbell?
Mia: Uh, yeah.
Man: I have this idea to do a re-imagining of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" but from the perspective of the bears. It's kind of thrilling. Yeah, it could be like a franchise.
Mia: Right.
Man: So we don't know. There could've been a fourth bear, we don't know.
Mia: George Michael!
Seb: Hello.
Mia: Sorry. Yeah, yeah. It's... I know that guy. Did you get your keys?
Seb: Mm-hmm. Yes.
Mia: Can you grab mine?
Seb: Can I what?
Mia: Would you be able to grab mine? My keys?
Seb: I can't hear you.
Mia: Sorry. Can you grab my keys?
Seb: Oh.
Mia: Please?
Seb: Oh, there we go.
Mia: Thank you.
Seb: You're welcome. What kind?
Mia: It's a Prius.
Seb: Does that mean that...? That does't help me.
Mia: With a green ribbon.
Seb: All right.
Seb: Those look, uh, comfortable.
Mia: They are. Thank you for saving the day back there.
Seb: Well, you didn't really give me much of a choice.
Mia: It's pretty strange that we keep running into each other.
Seb: It is strange. Maybe it means something.
Mia: I doubt it.
Seb: Yeah, I don't think so.
Mia: Where's my car?!
Seb: You (have) got to put that thing to your chin.
Mia: This?
Seb: Yeah. Yeah, it makes your head into an antenna, so...
Mia: Oh?
Seb: I think it gives you cancer, but you find your car faster.
Mia: What?
Seb: I mean, you don't live as long, but you get where you're going quicker, so it all evens out.
Mia: That sounds terrible.
Seb: Just a suggestion.

Seb: Knight in shining armor?
Mia: Weirdo. That was the word.
