Listen & Repeat

This activity has two purposes.

The first purpose is to improve listening accuracy. Learners can often understand the general meaning of a video but still not hear and understand many of the words that are said. This is because native speakers tend to say the functional words unclearly. (eg. don’t know, going to, want to, can’t, must have) This activity is designed to help learners improve their ability to hear these words.

TIP: Learners should listen, and then try to repeat exactly what they hear. Then they should click “Show” and read the sentence. After reading the sentence, learners should listen again and try to hear each word.

The second purpose is to improve pronunciation.

TIP: Learners should listen to and read the sentences at the same time. Then learners should try to copy the pronunciation and intonation of the speaker exactly.

TIP: Exaggerating the intonation and feeling of the speaker is useful. It may feel awkward or funny, but it will help you sound more natural.

Escuchar y Repetir

Ouvir e repetir

Esta atividade tem dois propósitos.

O primeiro objetivo é melhorar a precisão auditiva.

O segundo objetivo é melhorar a pronúncia.

DICA: os alunos devem ouvir e ler as frases ao mesmo tempo. Em seguida, os alunos devem tentar copiar exatamente a pronúncia e a entonação do falante.

DICA: É útil exagerar na entonação e no sentimento do falante. Pode parecer estranho ou engraçado, mas ajudará você a soar mais natural.

triangle Script 대본 Roteiro Texto

Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland. It is a very beautiful old city. About four hundred thousand people live in the city, and six million people visit every year.

Every year in August, there's a festival in the city with a lot of theater, music, dance, and comedy.

The original city was built on the Royal Mile. This is a street in Edinburgh's Old Town. The Royal Mile is about 1.6 km long. It starts at Holyrood Palace and finishes at Edinburgh Castle. It is called the Royal Mile because it connects two royal homes.

The castle is nearly a thousand years old. It stands on an enormous piece of volcanic rock, and it looks down on the rest of the city.

King David the First of Scotland was the first king who built on the rock in about 1130.

He built this chapel and named it Queen Mary's Chapel after his mother.

For the next three hundred years, the castle was at the center of wars between England and Scotland.

In the 15th century, the castle became the home of the King of Scotland. Each new king added to the castle.

In 1511, James the Fourth built the Great Hall.

In the 16th century, James the Sixth added extra defenses to the castle entrance.

In the 18th century, Scotland officially became part of the United Kingdom.

The last battle at the castle was in 1745 when Prince Charles Edward Stewart, who was nicknamed Bonny Prince Charley, tried to capture the castle.

In the early 19th century, the castle was a prison, but it is now a tourist attraction.

About one and a quarter million people visit the castle every year. They come to see the buildings and to hear the stories.

They also come to see and hear the one o'clock gun. Soldiers fire this every day at exactly one o'clock.

But they really come for the views of the city of Edinburgh.
