triangle Listen & Repeat 듣고 따라하기 Ouça e repita Escuchar y repetir [ ? ]

Listen & Repeat

This activity has two purposes.

The first purpose is to improve listening accuracy. Learners can often understand the general meaning of a video but still not hear and understand many of the words that are said. This is because native speakers tend to say the functional words unclearly. (eg. don’t know, going to, want to, can’t, must have) This activity is designed to help learners improve their ability to hear these words.

TIP: Learners should listen, and then try to repeat exactly what they hear. Then they should click “Show” and read the sentence. After reading the sentence, learners should listen again and try to hear each word.

The second purpose is to improve pronunciation.

TIP: Learners should listen to and read the sentences at the same time. Then learners should try to copy the pronunciation and intonation of the speaker exactly.

TIP: Exaggerating the intonation and feeling of the speaker is useful. It may feel awkward or funny, but it will help you sound more natural.

Escuchar y Repetir

Ouvir e repetir

Esta atividade tem dois propósitos.

O primeiro objetivo é melhorar a precisão auditiva.

O segundo objetivo é melhorar a pronúncia.

DICA: os alunos devem ouvir e ler as frases ao mesmo tempo. Em seguida, os alunos devem tentar copiar exatamente a pronúncia e a entonação do falante.

DICA: É útil exagerar na entonação e no sentimento do falante. Pode parecer estranho ou engraçado, mas ajudará você a soar mais natural.

Emily: Oh. Hi.

Gabriel: So this is where you work.

Emily: You're early.

Gabriel: I was a bit nervous I'd be late. This is a big deal for me. A marketing firm behind my restaurant opening. I mean...

Julien: Chef Gabriel. Nice to see you again. We are all so excited to be handling your opening. Okay, that one came out wrong.

Emily: So to recap. Phase one is creating awareness. I plan to direct social content from Maison Lavaux's Instagram, which has increased 30% since I started, to the newly launched Chez Lavaux account. That will help build excitement for the restaurant's debut. What?

Gabriel: Um, nothing. It's great. I just never... Please continue.

Sylvie: Yeah, but not for much longer, please.

Emily: Okay. So, cards on the table, this is my first restaurant account, so just thinking out loud, would you prefer a soft opening to get the kitchen up to speed, or do you want to start with a bang?

Luc: Bang! In my opinion.

Antoine: We don't want our customers coming to a dress rehearsal, do we?

Gabriel: Good point, yeah, probably not.

Emily: Okay, so that's decided. The last thing to discuss though is building more content on social. So, Gabriel, I'm going to have to come to the restaurant and get some behind-the-scenes footage of you at work.

Gabriel: Of course. You're welcome any time.

Gabriel: Was that good?

Emily: Maybe loosen up a little, and smile?

Gabriel: While I'm cutting squash? It feels weird.

Emily: Well, take another sip then.

Gabriel: Okay.

Emily: Okay, ready?

Gabriel: Ready.

Emily: Okay. Go!

Gabriel: No. You have to cut that bit. I look ridiculous on this one.

Emily: No! I think you look great. It was candid!

Gabriel: Come on, no, please. Please. Delete it.

Emily: It's my account! You have to trust me.

Gabriel: It's my face.

Emily: You have to trust me.

Woman: [in French] Hi, sorry. I'm here for the interview.

Gabriel: Right. The bartender job.

Woman: Has the position been filled?

Emily: No. I was just here to get some content for social. And I think we got everything we needed.

Gabriel: Uh, almost.

Emily: Yeah. Happy... Happy interview.
