Discussion 논의 Questões de discussão Discusión Обговорення

  1. Why does Robin pretend to be from Bemidji, Minnesota? Can you relate to this situation? Have you ever lied or pretended in order to fit in?
  2. Robin and Marshall both apologize to each other. What does each person apologize for? Who do you think was more in the wrong?
  3. Have you ever introduced someone to a new situation or friend group, and then that person became more popular than you? How did you feel? How did you react?
  4. Have you ever felt homesick? How did you cope (deal) with it? What advice would you give to someone who was feeling homesick?
  5. Why do you think Robin feels especially homesick at Christmas? At what time of the year or on which holiday do you feel (or would you feel if you were abroad) the most homesick?
  6. Do you have a favorite place that makes you feel at home? What makes it special for you?
  7. Robin refuses to share her mini-burgers with Marshall. How do you feel about sharing food at a restaurant?
  8. The TV show represents everyone from Minnesota as big, football-obsessed, and in love with fishing. The Canadians are represented as overly polite, and they love donuts. If the bar were from your hometown or country, how would you represent the people? (What stereotypes would be the most accurate? Which ones would be the funniest?)

Ted: That year, the holidays were really making Aunt Robin miss Canada, so Marshall brought her to the spot he went whenever he got homesick for Minnesota: The Walleye Saloon.

Marshall: Evening, everybody.

Crowd: Marshall!

Marshall: Meet Robin.

Crowd: Robin!

Marshall: Go back to drinking.

Crowd: Drinking!

Waiter: All right. We got two Bemidji Pale Ales, and who ordered the mini-burgers?

Robin: Me.

Robin: Oh, my God! Is that Fisherman's Quest? I used to play FQ all the time back home!

Marshall: Oh, yeah? I kind of have high score. Not to brag, but I caught a 35-inch northern pike.

Robin: Thank you for bringing me here. Those are mine.

Marshall: Don't let anyone in here know that you're not from Minnesota.

Robin: Why? What are they going to do if they find out I'm from...

Waiter: Does this look like a Dallas bar to you, pal?

Dallas Guy: It's weird, but there's something comforting about being carried like this.

Man: Man, can you believe that guy? So, Robin, where are you from?

Robin: ah... Bemidji. Bemidji, Minnesota. Go, Vikes!

Man: High score! You beat Marshall!

Marshall: She's Canadian! Robin's Canadian! She's Canadian. She's not from Bemidji, and she doesn't know a darn thing about the Vikings.

Marshall: Hey.

Robin: Hey.

Marshall: Hey. I'm so sorry for what happened back there. I acted like a total jerk. I shouldn't have said anything.

Robin: No, look, I'm sorry. That was your place. I shouldn't have tried to make it mine. Just every year at the holidays, I get homesick. I wish I could blink my eyes and be back in Canada for an hour, you know?

Marshall: I was hoping you would say that.

Singer: Once, there was this girl who wouldn't go and change With the girls in the change room...

Marshall: Feels like home, right?

Robin: There's one way to find out.

Canadian: Oh, sorry there. Didn't see ya. Are you okay?

Robin: I'm fine.

Marshall: You bumped into him, and he apologized and gave you a donut on the hoose?

Robin: It's just like home.
