Summary

This activity is designed to improve sentence accuracy and complexity. Most students can produce the key content words in a sentence. However, they have difficulty with accuracy because the functional words are difficult or can seem unimportant. This activity will help learners eliminate problems with these functional words by giving them immediate feedback on the mistakes they are making. It will also help students develop their use of more natural, varied and complex sentence structures.

TIP: Say the sentence out loud. Notice the types of mistake you make often. Focus on those types of errors. (singular/plural, subject-verb agreement, article use, prepositions, gerunds and infinitives, noun clauses, adjective clauses, word order, and word forms.)

triangle Listen & Repeat 듣고 따라하기 Ouça e repita Escuchar y repetir [ ? ]

Listen & Repeat

This activity has two purposes.

The first purpose is to improve listening accuracy. Learners can often understand the general meaning of a video but still not hear and understand many of the words that are said. This is because native speakers tend to say the functional words unclearly. (eg. don’t know, going to, want to, can’t, must have) This activity is designed to help learners improve their ability to hear these words.

TIP: Learners should listen, and then try to repeat exactly what they hear. Then they should click “Show” and read the sentence. After reading the sentence, learners should listen again and try to hear each word.

The second purpose is to improve pronunciation.

TIP: Learners should listen to and read the sentences at the same time. Then learners should try to copy the pronunciation and intonation of the speaker exactly.

TIP: Exaggerating the intonation and feeling of the speaker is useful. It may feel awkward or funny, but it will help you sound more natural.

Escuchar y Repetir

Ouvir e repetir

Esta atividade tem dois propósitos.

O primeiro objetivo é melhorar a precisão auditiva.

O segundo objetivo é melhorar a pronúncia.

DICA: os alunos devem ouvir e ler as frases ao mesmo tempo. Em seguida, os alunos devem tentar copiar exatamente a pronúncia e a entonação do falante.

DICA: É útil exagerar na entonação e no sentimento do falante. Pode parecer estranho ou engraçado, mas ajudará você a soar mais natural.

triangle Script 대본 Roteiro Texto

Wednesday: The dead can be just as annoying and unreliable as the living.

Enid: Hi. I can’t seem to find my bottle of silver moon nail polish. Do you mind if I look around? Yoko’s hosting a mani-pedi party for her crew.

Wednesday: This is the third time in 24 hours you’ve forgotten something.

Enid: So, how is everything going?

Wednesday: Solitude suits me. With no annoying distractions, I’m almost finished with my novel.

Enid: Was I an annoying distraction?

Wednesday: You definitely had some annoying habits.

Enid: Such as?

Wednesday: You giggle when you text, which is a 24/7 addiction.

Enid: Well, at least it’s not a migraine-inducing typewriter hammering into my head.

Wednesday: When not grinding your canines, you growl in your sleep.

Enid: As opposed to late night cello solos?

Wednesday: You over-commit to activities, then complain about them.

Enid: I’d take that over your obsession with all things creepy and dead.

Wednesday: You could gas an entire village with the amount of perfume you spritz. And that’s just off the top of my head.

Enid: Guess I’m lucky with the new bestie that doesn’t try to find ways to endanger literally everybody she comes into contact with. In fact, Yoko and I are so in sync that she’s begging me to be her new roomie. Permanently.

Wednesday: Don’t let me hold you back.

Enid: Enjoy your solitude, Wednesday.

Wednesday: It’s not solitude if you’re still here.

Ms. Thornhill: I didn’t mean to startle you.

Wednesday: I was just working on my novel.

Ms. Thornhill: Enid has requested to room with Yoko for the rest of the school year.

Wednesday: She did?

Ms. Thornhill: When there’s a falling out, I like to get both girls’ perspectives on what happened. You two seemed as thick as thieves.

Wednesday: Ultimately, thieves turn on each other. I’ve seen it with my own eyes.

Ms. Thornhill: Deflect all you want, but you and I both know that you care about Enid. And you have to admit she managed to bring out a spark of warmth in you. Oh, don’t worry. Just a tiny spark. Barely perceptible to the average eye, but I noticed. Part of the dorm experience is making friends with people that you wouldn’t normally connect with. And those friendships often turn into lifelong bonds.

Wednesday: I would rather buy a rope.

Ms. Thornhill: Is it really so difficult for you to admit that you made a friend, and now that she’s gone you might actually miss her?

Wednesday: I’ll survive alone. I always have.

Ms. Thornhill: Well, if that’s your decision, I’ll submit the forms to Principal Weems.
